BES Art Corner
This week in art class the student have been busy learning all about Jean-Michel Basquiat! Jean-Michel Basquiat was a Brooklyn-born, influential African-American artist who rose to fame in the 1980s New York underground scene. His work, known for its gestural arks and primitive style, is considered a groundbreaking contribution to the Neo-Expressionism movement.
Kinders painted a crown and accented a crown. Basquiat would often put crowns in his art as a sign of respect.
1st grade became graffiti artist this week. Instead of spray paint and buildings they used markers, crayons and paper! They loved this! They also started on their own individual Basquiat art pieces!
2nd graders just started their Basquiat style piece but with an Emoji twist! They are super excited!
3rd graders just finished up the amazing MLK Jr. I Have a Dream artwork and are going to be starting their Basquiat art next week!
4th graders learned one of Basquiat's techniques, dry brushing. They practiced making his famous dinosaur and their artwork turned out amazing!
5th graders created their own Basquiat creation using a roll-a-Basquiat sheet! They are starting to look awesome!
6th graders are finally finishing up their famous African-American face drawings! They have worked so hard on these and are excited to learn about our artist of the month!
I also had three 6th graders help me paint our glass art this month! Blake, Ellie and My'Chale did such an amazing job! Way to go!
